Located in Bergamo, in the northern Italian province of Bergamo, on the outskirts of Milan, this house is set in a 20'70s house carefully converted by Officina Magisafi. Inspired by the owners' commitment to industrial aesthetics, the design studio took an experimental approach, researching and using new technologies and new materials. Officina Magisafi demolished most of the existing structures to create a large open space unconstrained by traditional rules. As the designer explained, the original stairwell was exposed and inserted backwards to expand the main floor, creating a space twice as high. To expand the volume of the living area, the studio inserted custom-designed metal trusses as functional and structural elements, adding aesthetic details.
Now that the space has become spacious and bright, designers are free to add contrasting palettes of dark materials. The gray marble kitchen and basalt staircase combine with American walnut trim and oak walls. Geometry and linear volumes make up the interior space, and Officina Magisafi has designed elements such as a fireplace, kitchen, peachwood carpeted table and marble sink.
