In managing the layout of medium-density housing near high traffic intersections, Mansard's buildings respond to their occupants in a way that shields and protects them. THE SCHEME ENSURES A RETRACTION FROM THE STREET, KEEPS IT INDEPENDENT, AND THROUGH EXPERIMENTS WITH MATERIALITY, THE EXTERIOR FORMS ARE PRESENTED AS STURDY — SIMILAR TO BEAST AESTHETICS — WHILE THE FINISHES HAVE A NEUTRAL LUXURY, ENSURING A LASTING LEGACY.

The 16 apartments are clustered in spacious shared spaces, with the interfacing of the outer edges providing a different experience for each family, ensuring indoor-outdoor interaction. To address traffic noise issues, the overall profile is inspired by the original French curvilinear roof form, where the roof plane is divided into two different inclined sections, the lower part is usually steeper, traditionally including tiger windows, which are more flat towards the ridge.

This method allows a pitched roof to start from a height lower than normal level and can be used, but it still supports the underlying floor on the structure. Balancing outdoor and indoor areas, the landscape plays a key role in softening the overall form and encouraging interaction with neighboring homes. The soft nature of the finish is then brought into the interior of each house, with similar classical, linear techniques in detail. As an iconic development for the area, it is crucial to ensure its form and finish are durable. Mansard brought part of Paris to Melbourne's south, aiming to be equally robust and enduring.
