Perhaps the most striking element of this 600 ㎡ house is how it expanded after you walked in from the front door. Its design is deceptive because, from the street, the structure's breathtaking size and connection to the garden are completely hidden.
This is of course the goal of Micheal Ong, an architect from MODO, who designed the house as a progression of space and moment to ensure that it never looks overwhelming.
When faced with the challenge of designing a multi-generational Mount Waverly residence that can accommodate an owner (a retired couple), their young children, and a multi-generational Mount Waverly residence with relatives or friends, MODO architect Michael Ong knows the answer lies in a spacious design — though his clients believe this can only be done by living alone Come true. Micheal Ong and his team abandoned the traditional distinction between houses, front yards, and backyards and were able to walk the garden through the house to create homes embedded in the landscape and surrounding environment.
Although the house is large — a spacious 600 ㎡ — the design ensures that it never feels too big, but rather “more like a progression of space and moment,” explains Micheal.
Contact with the outdoors is critical to achieving this design goal. “As you walk through the house, you keep looking at the main courtyard space, and eventually it naturally becomes a backdrop for everyone to share,” Micheal says. “Both as a way of establishing a continuous connection with the landscape and as a visual anchor for the whole family.”
