6 Sydney Street is a structure carefully disguised as organic sculpture, consisting of 15 dwellings, based on craftsmanship and inspired by nature. Located on the outskirts of the city centre of Plaran, its form and location create a seamless link with the natural environment of the neighbouring Orrong Romanis Reserve.

Referencing the winding curves of nature, this asymmetrical building appears to be carved from a single raw material, abstracting its form composition. Its softened floor is interpreted as the main element, cleverly molded into fine blades, placed on an irregular grid composed of characteristic groove columns. The interaction of fluid forms gives the building a visual mobility. Deep ripples form along the upturned elevations, forming conscious layers of lively and quiet spaces that blend the intermittent garden with plantings, further softening the form.

The base of the building is hidden in a lush garden, which forms an entrance awning between two recessed groove columns, accessed through a curved passage. The entry sequence begins to transform external concepts more internally with exquisite natural material palettes and carefully crafted details. The first sign is a wooden door decorated with carved cast bronze and silver-plated door handles.

Each apartment is unique with different lights, views and terraces. Wide glass windows and levels form a distant landscape of plants, parks and cities. Many interior surfaces are softened by the use of curved volumes and stucco, drawing inspiration from external forms. Finely crafted from natural wood and marble to match the books, the fine woodwork adds warmth, contrast, and refined minimalist luxury to the overall feel. WRAPPED IN LIMESTONE MOSAIC, THE BATHROOM GIVES THE SPACE A SUBTLE TEXTURAL QUALITY AND CONTRASTS SHARPLY WITH THE STURDY DRESSING TABLE MADE OF DYED WOOD AND STONE.

Developed in partnership with V-Leader, 6 Sydney Street is the result of a curved aesthetic carved into an urban neighbourhood, breaking up the walled streetscape created by straight neighbours. Its polished form experimented with the concept of solids and voids in monochrome visual quality. Its connection with nature, its use of movement and artistry produced a unique result that contrasts sharply with the surrounding residential environment.
