Toorak Residence is located at the end of a quiet street where designers draw inspiration from the surroundings and become their own resting place inside. As a landscape designer's home, gardens are expected to be an important part of the architectural narrative. Formed by similar underlying principles, the relationship with the building is complementary, and the balance between the two can be seen.

Behind the sturdy and enclosed front fence, the upper level of the structure serves as an opaque glass and wooden box that looks out to the outside, while still allowing natural light into the space while protecting residents from street intrusions. ADDARC and Jack Merlo worked closely to come up with a home rich in personal expression, one that celebrates the surrounding natural elements.

The Toorak Residence is inspired by the modernist approach, with long and linear forms blending together throughout the venue. From start to finish, clear, uninterrupted views and views connect spaces, both hinting at movement and connecting the exterior of buildings to the landscape. Through a combination of dark wood, steel and stone, the sun is always felt and softened by layers of rich textures and fabrics. Rooms and gardens are dotted with an array of fun animal specimens, artwork, and lights, further creating a sense of timeless luxury as people traverse the space.
