Hidden in the bustling heart of London is a tranquil haven of 20 floors. Beautifully designed by Tuckey Design Studio, Bough Terrace Apartments perfectly blend Japanese aesthetics with modern minimalism to create a stunning urban haven. This article will take you deep into this unique space and learn how designers transform a poor apartment into an art-like residence.
Renovated background The Bough Terrace Apartments are located in the centre of London and are in poor condition. At the end of 2020, a frequent visitor to and from London bought the property after an online visit during the pandemic lockdown. The apartment used to suffer from water problems, lack of natural light, and cluttered interior partitions. Customers want to transform it into a private residence that can replace the hotel, while also serving as an ideal place to display their personal art collections.
Design concept Architects Ryuta Hirayama and Dan Stilwell of Tuckey Design Studio took on this challenging project. Their design concept revolves around the silent Japanese aesthetic and aims to create a space far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. The design is inspired by Kyoto's Kōryū Shrine, with a focus on preserving and displaying the apartment's original wooden lattice structure.
Space layout The apartment consists of three floors, each of which has been carefully designed:
