THIS RECTANGULAR VILLA PRESENTS A SOLID TIMBER CONCRETE BUILDING ERECTION THAT SEEMS TO FLOAT ALONG THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE HOUSE, PRACTICALLY FACING ITS NEIGHBOR ON ITS BACK. The other three elevations are finished with two completely different and contrasting materials. THE OPAQUE GROUND SPACE HAS A BLACK IRON APPEARANCE, WHILE MOST OF THE SECOND FLOOR AREA IS WRAPPED IN A SYSTEM OF VERTICAL ALUMINUM SHUTTERS WITH WOOD-TONE FINISHES. Dynamic shutter systems filter sunlight without blocking airflow in and through the house, while also providing residents with a way to control the different levels of privacy within the home.
The front solid concrete wall is effectively separated from the house, but is connected to it along its entire length by a series of skylights set in different shapes of building concrete, allowing light to penetrate the full-height open space at different heights. ANGLES AND CREATES DRAMATIC LIGHT SHADOW GEOMETRY ON CONCRETE WALLS. In this space, between the exterior walls and the actual quality of the building, the linear open white iron staircase provides an open view from the basement to the entire height of the house.
The wooden slats on the sides and rear elevations of the building are mirrored along the length of the ceiling in the open living area as wood grilles and then, towards the stairs, the length of the wooden grating continues upward to complete the exterior of the actual fence, further emphasizing the detachment between the floating concrete wall and the rest of the house. The open white iron room partition/shelving system separates the staircase from the open space living and acts as a structural column system, allowing the concrete wall to float above the base windows that extend along its length.
