The original Edwardian single-storey cottage was dark with a lack of connection with the outside world. Timmins+Whyte Architects used 10 pleats on the roof to absorb light along the lean house and site. Modestly paying homage to the street, the house has undergone a modern adjustment to the Edwardian cottage, with two floors of the house away from the street, hiding the volume of the bedrooms.

The rebuilt original room was painted white to keep in line with the original cottage and neighboring houses on the site. The two-storey “new” part of the house is covered and painted green, the color matches the leaves of the Australian bush. Timmins+Whyte Architects chose wooden doors and windows because they are the most frequently contacted part of the building by customers, and wood adds warmth to the palette.

Throughout the process, the space creates its own sense of expansion and compression — from the private dining room to the towering ceilings hung on carefully selected art walls. True to the design philosophy of Timmins+Whyte Architects, this is a well thought-out and carefully constructed residence that improves the lives of clients tenfold. The structure is a lightweight stud frame and roof beams, painted with av connection fc board.
