The case is a residential renovation in the Jing'an District of Shanghai. The whole house has a practical area of 18 floors and is located on 29 floors, overlooking the bustling modern downtown area. The original room type is a multi-room layout suitable for home use. The owner is a young man who loves cooking and wants to transform it into a modern-style apartment that is suitable for both living alone and for gatherings with friends.
Designers recreate the spatial order according to the user's way of life. The kitchen is located in the center of the entire apartment, open on both sides, connecting the entrance hall to the north, and extending to the south to the restaurant and living room, forming a bright and spacious open space. Continuous space is divided into functional boundaries by ground materials: the south side with teak floors and an open bare roof is the leisure area, and parts of the tiled floor and ceiling serve as kitchen and storage. The smooth and flexible movement made friends laugh at the party, the aroma of food and the view outside the window flowed, and the downstairs chef was freed from the hastily closed kitchen. The living room is placed in the sunny southwest corner. The originally open balcony was fitted with floor-to-ceiling windows and 270-degree views were introduced into the interior. A 3 m long piece of horizontal glass outlines the best aspect ratio, making the city skyline the visual focus of the entire space.
The designer made a 1-meter high built-in bookcase around the window. Three display ways transform the beauty of a book combination into an extra material texture. The olive green acrylic embedded on the north side of the bookshelf adds a touch of color vitality while being transparent. At sunset, the sun casts a gentle rhythm of light on the walls through blinds and frosted acrylic. The bedroom is located in the southeast corner, and the windows are partially obscured by the exterior wall, which, unfortunately, has been converted into natural darkness and secrecy. The limited bedroom area is divided into a walk-in cloakroom for convenient storage.
