In the bustling metropolis of Shanghai, a small 20-storey apartment is undergoing a stunning transformation. Renovated by designer Ben Xueting himself, this residence not only redefines the relationship between light and space, but also redefines the connection between residents and home. This blog will take you deep into every detail of this transformation project and explore how light, materials and space design are cleverly combined to inject warmth and order into your life.

Design Inspiration: Let Light Be the Main Role

This time, with light as the main axis, designer Ben Xueting wanted to introduce more natural light into the space by breaking the original wall divisions. Each room, every movement line, is carefully planned to allow light to flow, penetrate, and create a rich level of dark contrast at different angles.

With the hard texture of stainless steel, the warmth of the wood and the soft texture of cotton wool, the designers create a clean and harmonious space. Such a selection not only brings visual comfort, but also allows residents to feel the restrained beauty of their home in everyday life.

Project Background: Recreating Resident Logic

The apartment was actually renovated half a year ago, but because the design at the time did not meet the living needs and aesthetic preferences of the residents, the space felt fragmented and the residents could not emotionally connect with the home. For this reason, the owners decided to remodel again, emphasizing the combination of functionality and beauty.

One of the challenges facing this design was dealing with the load-bearing wall constraints of the old room, especially between the bedrooms, the kitchen and the hallway. Due to the low floor and the blocking of the original walls, the interior looks crowded and lacks natural light. This time, the focus of the design is on removing excess walls, reconnecting space with living needs, so that the rhythm of the space feels orderly.

Exploring Space: A Conversation Between Light and Material

In this small apartment of 20 floors, space is limited, but the designers cleverly use an open desk to separate the pediment from the bedroom area. This separation does not completely block the flow of light, but instead makes the space appear more transparent. Floors of different materials combine with furniture to form a vivid visual level that makes the space look light and orderly.

In the living room, the hinged cabinets take on both everyday storage functions and create a lightweight visual effect. The beehive curtain filters the light from the outside, making it soft, creating a cozy indoor atmosphere for residents. The virtual changes in the structure of the cabinets and the light shade add a sense of tranquility to the space, while the use of color brings the whole home to life.

Let functionality and aesthetics go hand in hand

In this design, designers Bien Xue Ting also faced an important challenge: how to rationally plan a new space while retaining the original furniture and appliances. The owners want to keep sofas, beds, air conditioners, etc. all need to be integrated into them, provided that they do not spoil the overall design. Designers successfully combine these needs with the design, guaranteeing functionality and no loss of beauty.

For example, in the area where the restaurant and living room are combined, designers boldly mix different materials, from USM display cabinets to stretch wall lamps to sofas, each element complements the strict design of the space. These collisions infuse the space with a zest for life, making the apartment no longer just a static space, but a home full of vitality and stories.

Small Details, Big Impact: The Key to Transformation

During the transformation process, it is important for designers to have control over the details. For example, although the kitchen is narrow in space, the combination of stainless steel and mosaic tiles not only makes the kitchen highly practical, but also shows a concise, austere aesthetic. The design of the sliding door saves a lot of space and maintains the overall conciseness. At the same time, the use of a small built-in shower reduces visual interference, leaving the lines of the shower area clean and clean.

In this renovation, the designers also introduced small and large bricks of different materials, which create a visual effect of opacity between the shower area, which both achieves dry and wet partitions and increases the sense of levity of the space.

Perfect fusion of life and space

This transformation by designer Bien Xueting not only gave the 20-storey small apartment more light and warmth, but also redefined the relationship between space and its inhabitants. Through a careful selection of materials and spatial layout, this residence presents a pure, austere aesthetic while meeting the needs of everyday life.

In the end, the space became a home full of light and love, with every corner bearing the life stories of its occupants, perfectly reflecting the designer's deep understanding of life and space.
