Market Mews is a minimalist home located in London, England, designed by Ampuero Yutronic. The major reason for the redevelopment was the deterioration of the original building and the client's space requirements, which strategically utilized existing boundary walls shared with neighboring properties. This integration is particularly evident on the north-facing elevation. Using elements of traditional London residential design, it differs from the simplest details and material choices. Huge reconstituted limestone slabs at the entrance to the bottom floor create a striking base. The use of this limestone is due not only to the historical popularity of this material in the region, but also extends to the windowsill. White steel framed windows complement this base, maintaining the typical characteristics of the residential area.
The central part of the building uses limestone bricks arranged in a Roman pattern, characterized by limestone cement. This choice increases the depth of one layer of window, adds a layer of visual interest and the traditional impact of a continuous look. At the top of the building, a traditional mansard roof with dormer windows was strategically placed to reduce the impact on the view from the level of the street. The design makes maximum use of natural light, especially on the bottom. A light well at the back of the residence transmits light to a multipurpose basement space and a study room on the ground floor. The first floor is the main living space, including a restaurant and living room, surrounded by a large display cabinet that provides separation and visual continuity across the floor. This one floor, high ceilings and open layout serves as the center of the home. The master bedroom suite on the second floor includes a spacious dressing area and a large bathroom with separate bath. Additional bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms are located on the top floor.
